I regret my social work degree. It is not a good fit for my personality and temperament.
The real question is.. xan we get a MSW without having a bachelor degree?

I learned that if you’re going to the MSW program it’s better to get your license in LCSW. That is where the coins are at. Our LCSW where I work makes $100k in the justice social worker. This is where I am aiming for.

I don’t think its worth it for me if i didn’t plan to get my license. I live in California and i think they pay LCSWs pretty good. Same for nevada
If you work in the nonprofit or NGO industry you can get your loans forgiven, You just have to make 120 qualifying payments. With the current PAYE program, even $0 is a qualifying payment.
So I’m an LMSW for a police department homeless outreach team. And I am the lowest paid individual on that team. And the only one with a degree. Makes me wish I chose a different profession.
It's not worth it as a person of color. Social work practices are deep rooted in colonialism / white supremacy. The work environments are toxic. And the pay is abysmal even though we do 4-5 jobs under one title.

I'm a school social worker, if you enjoy working with kids, school social workers start off making $50,000/year based on experience and in school districts, your pay goes up every school year.
I recommend starting off in a non profit organization, to gain good experience.
Medical social workers also make a good salary.

8:07 It can be difficult to "just gas yourself up and believe". I find it easier to keep moving forward when I remind myself of my 'why'. And also keeping it at top of mind that others may not have the same dreams and experiences as you. Your advisor's or your professor's perspective will differ from yours because your lived experiences will differ vastly. Lastly, keeping your dreams and goals alive is hard when you are in the thick of the work it takes to realize them. Journaling before bed or upon waking can be an excellent way to keep on track and make it easier to gas yourself up when you need that self-pep talk.
